Romexterra Bank / RebrandingIn 2007, following a takeover by German and Hungarian BayernLB and MKB Bank, Romanian owned Romexterra Bank began an extensive rebranding process. The name changed into MKB Romexterra Bank and Copygraff became responsible for the creative part of the rebranding process. At the time it was the biggest rebranding in the Romanian banking sector and it still represents a milestone throughout my design career. It was carried out within a two people team—myself plus a copywriter and it took almost a year to complete. Whilst designing the logo, at first I explored the use of the name particle “terra” and the old symbol representing an earth globe, but after further evaluation we realised that for a local bank it would have been over-promising and without any real value. Their slogan, bluntly translated “From equal to equal” directed me towards the final stages of the process. Designing an “ascending equal” sign proved to be the winning solution. In the end they loved it and so did I.
